Kimberly and I went to Gem City in Quincy, IL a couple of weeks ago. It was our first time going and we were looking forward to it. They had nice handicap parking outside and a flat entrance which was appreciated. Unfortunately, those were the only things about the physical space of the restaurant that we liked. The inside of the restaurant is very cramped. Had we not had friends already inside, maybe we would have been able to sit by the door and not feel so uncomfortable. However, our companions had already been seated in the very back of the establishment. I don’t think they were thinking about how hard it would be for Kimberly to get back there. Once inside, you have two aisles that go to the back. Below is a picture of one. The customers would have all had to stand up and chairs be pushed in for us to get by. I’m sure they would have done it, but it still isn’t fun to inconvenience people like that. Thankfully, a staff member notified our predicament and quickly came up with a solution. We love it when people think outside the box for accommodations. They let Kimberly pass through the area they get orders ready. You can see in the picture that the space was still small, but at least Kimberly didn’t feel like she was going to run over someone. We got the taco pizza and it was delicious!
So, although the staff was great and the food excellent, we will probably skip Gem City in the future. They have a sister restaurant called The Tower of Pizza that also has great food, great service, and much more open space! We will definitely go there again!
